There's been a lot of talk on the blagosphere about racism. Are we not Magicians? Fuck it, man, let's do some magic.
I'll be Working with Michael on bringing More Light! to the racist masses this Sunday in a Solar hour. Something that raises up the tincture of their spheres in this area.
Whatever your path, whatever your tradition, let's join together in doing something magical about this problem. We don't all have to do it at the same time, and everyone doesn't have to have the same intent. I'll be saying something along the lines of, "Michael, I conjure you to bring illumination to the ignorant trapped in darkness that they may see through their prejudice to the shared humanity of all cultures, regardless of skin color, culture, or creed. Bind those who spread hate, and free those oppressed by the transgressions of the racists."
I've recently caught an inkling of the potential of a mass of little sparks of light all gathered, aimed, and released at a common goal can be, and it's pretty incredible. Even if all you feel comfortable doing is lifting up a heartfelt plea for resolution of the racial conflict and the tearing down of racial divides to the Source of all that is, that will help. Aim it at your local areas and the nation at large, and all humanity while you're at it.
If we all stand together Above, the manifestation Below will be pretty damned incredible.
And before anyone says "Yeah, do the magic, but make sure you do the mundane work too..." No shit! If you're a racist, fucking quit it. Stand up to your racist friends, stop participating or accepting it wherever you are if you do. Quit letting it slide. That SHOULD go without saying, but I know how people are.
That's important, but do the magic. Do it.
Excellent! I'll be sure to get down to business during on one of the Solar hours this Sunday. Now to pick a target?
ReplyDeletePerhaps a Big Fish would be best...someone who disseminates fear and racism from their platform on a regular basis. Limbaugh, Beck. Raising the "tone" of either of those creatures would do the same for many of their followers, perhaps. Maybe.
Again folks, I'm not targeting anyone specifically. If you have a specific cause you're felt led to pursue, do it. Please don't use my blog comments to post your agenda. You have a computer and can type, start your own blog.
ReplyDeleteGood point. Soi often we're reminded to pay attention to the mundane - but it works the other way 'round too.
ReplyDeleteI'll toss my lot in fwiw.
I work with a witchcraft trad that likes to do magic for Big Social Causes. I think it's too unfocused to do much good.
ReplyDeleteAt the very least, it's terribly hard to measure any results that may occur.
@thegreencall: A single ion is pretty useless for interstellay space travel, but put enough of them together streaming in the same direction, and you'll approach light speed. Eventually.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't wake up as a society one morning and all of a sudden have a racial problem that just appeared over night. No single magical rite will undo all the tangled knots in one swail foop. The point is to get a lot of people doing magic, each in the way God appointed them (or however it was revealed to them).
@Rufus - that's a fair statement. I do support people doing magic for justice.
ReplyDeleteStill, I think targeting the issue in a top down way (i.e. racism everywhere rather) does spread the magic a bit thin.
When I do this kind of magic, I try to in specific ways, for example working on promoting racial justice on the local or individual level.
Mainly this comes from my view (and experience) of magic. I find that magic works best when connecting the numinous to the specific (e.g. drawing love to a single person) rather than the general (e.g. everyone everywhere finding love).
Other magicians' mileage may vary on this. This can be based on my own style of magic/knacks and et cetra.
(was the greencall above, but I kept getting an error with the Open ID login)
@Jay - You're talking about two different kinds of magic here.
ReplyDeleteFor we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
This isn't about doing magic to win the girl or get the promotion, it's about doing magic to change the world, to make it a better place for everyone stuck in it. Being a different kind of magic, the results are going to be very different, but there will be results regardless. My little Solar rite may be a drop of water compared to the ocean, but drops of water carve through mountains.
Doing this rite may accomplish very little. Not doing this rite because it spreads the magic too thin will accomplish absolutely nothing.
