Here's your change...

In case someone doesn't read the comments on my blog the way I have to, here's one on my post about being "trapped" by the kids:

Josephus said... "When I look at the kids I know, my own and others', I can't help but wonder how in the living fuck magicians ever used them as scrying assistants."

Not that difficult to understand. 1,000 years ago the world was different. The main reasons you wouldn't be able to do that today are:

1)Wii.
2)Hours and hours of TV per day.
3)Stupid and uneducated parents,(not in the academic sense)
4)Stupider, uneducated teachers(in the academic sense as well)
5)Constant psychological overstimulation, mostly by the above. (Gee, I wonder why so many kids "need" Ritalin?)

A thousand years ago kids didn't have this. They also learned "unimportant" things like respect(especially for elders), obediance (you can't teach that now cause it's "child abuse")and how to sit still for more than 5 minutes.

Just my 2 cents.
 Josephus, here's your change:

I don't know what rock you crawled out from under, but the neanderthallic shit you've dragged out with you makes me want to punch you repeatedly in the face until you die and the mortician has to try to reconstruct your face from a photo and your mother still doesn't recognize you. What kind of fucking MORON thinks child abuse instills respect and obedience? You're a fucking waste of human flesh. There isn't a pit low enough in hell, there isn't a torment in Serbia that is sufficient for you. Stop reading my blog, Josephus. I don't want you or ANYONE like you learning from me. Anyone agree with fucktard? Get the fuck off my blog.

My kids are respectful and obedient. Out of love, not fear.

  1. Where the hell did he read anything about child abuse in your post??? I read it again and there isn't even a hint of a suggestion of punishment much less abuse.

I personally agree, children of today tend to horrible little selfish monsters due to all the video games, sugar and consumerism entrained into them from the get go...

  2. St. B:

I'm afraid that's bullshit too. Men have always thought that shit about kids:

"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on
frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond
words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and
respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise
[disrespectful] and impatient of restraint" (Hesiod, 8th century BC).

As soon as you start blaming perceived character traits that aren't there on things that have nothing to do with it, you end up in a cycle of what leads to abuse.

  3. I find myself doing the same thing as Hesiod, looking at the youth of today and wondering what is wrong with them.

Then I remember my parents did the same to me, and their parents the same to them. My Grandfather knocked my father down, and told him whenever my father thought he could take him, he should give it a shot. My father told me the same thing, luckily without the knocking down.

I don't have children, but even if I did, I don't think I'd pass that along.

There is nothing new under the sun. I think that some children were used as scrying assistants: prodigies, talented children. Others were not. Just as some adults are magicians, others are not. Some children can concentrate, others can not. Environment can encourage or discourage these traits, but it's not the only determinant. I was reading a study done to show that some high reactive people start that way at birth. Others learn it as they grow up in bad environments.

Making blanket statements is simply inaccurate, including this one.

Bahahahahahahahaha... It's not often that I get to hear you verbally deconstruct a person, but it's always golden when I do.

  5. Bah. I over reacted. I doubt he sanctions child abuse, it's just I can't let my post sit out there and justify the kind of sloppy thinking that leads to it, you know? Hopefully an irrational reaction will snap him out of irrational generalizations.

  6. Yeah, yeah -- but that's the kind of cynical shit I love shelling out. I laughed my ass off. Yes, out loud. Like roflmfao.

    Anyway...

  7. Rufus, oh, a bit excessively violent -- but yeah. As if the only way to instill respect and obedience is physical violence. What a load.

  8. Dude, I see that you totally misunderstood my post. First of all you failed to see the humor in my comment. Second, I fail to see what I said that would cause you to unleash such anger and hatred towards me. If your kids are good, that only means your a good parent. Thats it. It seems you just read what you wanted into my comment in order to discharge your frustration. Nowhere did I advocate child abuse, nor do I even believe in violence as a solution to anything. You apparently do. I aplogize for offending you, and yet I stand for what I what I said. I wont comment on your blog again.

    Regards

    Josephus

  9. Just a small quote from your bible:

    Psalms 13.24:

"He that spareth the rod, hateth his son; but he that loveth him, correcteth him betimes."

I doubt CPS would see this as other than child abuse. My point being that if you discipline you child today as it was done in those days, I would most likely be seen as child abuse.

    Regards,

    Josephus

  10. Josephus,

It would be child abuse to beat your child with a rod. Personally, I think even spanking is borderline, but I have this whole "humans are worthy of respect even if they're not moral agents" thing that I know is rather fringe.

  11. Wow! I really love this blog.

And I really hate it when you go ballistic in ways that are absolutely unworthy of the important message you are trying to convey.

You are at over seventy followers and growing. You will keep growing, too, because you are linked to and cited by some very popular blogs. And because you write a killer blog. You're a blog phenomenon. That comes with some heavy responsibilities.

Do yourself a favor. When you're feeling particularly emotional, take a deep breath before you hit that "publish" button. Maybe even go for a short walk or something. I work for a large international company, and we're constantly being warned about the dangers of sending e-mail when you're excited. I even waited a day to comment here until the dust settled and I felt a little less emotional.

I hope saying this doesn't make me a "fucktard".

Can't wait for this blog to get back to its regularly scheduled programming.

Odd question: Do you think your explosion of anger might have been a pipe bursting after getting a Goetic overload from drawing all of those seals in such a short time?
